Fact-Checking the State of the Union

President pointed to some debatable stats

By Matt Cantor

Some people are checking a few facts from President's Obama's State of the Union address. It appears that a few of the impressive statements that Mr. President made were a bit of a stretch and contained some selective information. Here are some exaggerated facts from last Tuesday's speech.
  • The combat in Afghanistan is over...well it's not completely over yet.
  • The GDP is growing at its fastest rate since 1999...not really.
  • Since 2010, America has put more people back to than Europe, Japan, and all other advanced economies combined....if you forget about China.
President Obama has also received some backlash for a statement about winning both of his election, which was deemed as his most arrogant moment in his presidency.

I find the whole idea of the State of the Union to be much too over analyzed. For one, the President is just making empty promises until they are carried out. Also I think that Americans need to keep up will politics much more than they do because I'm sure that numerous Americans would not know about most of the topic that the president covers.

  1. Yeah just like I said in my blog a lot of the statements that he made were only right if you looked at it from a very skewed perspective. Most of the iffy things he said could only be backed up with one tidbit while they could be shot down with numerous statistics... The state of the union is really a joke. The people who like the president at the time think they're brilliant and those against him think he's an idiot no matter what he says.
